Ororo Monroe is the descendant of an ancient line of African priestesses, all of whom have white hair, blue eyes, and the potential to wield magic. Her mother, N’dare, was an African princess who married American photojournalist David Monroe and moved with him to Manhattan, where Ororo was born. When Ororo was six months old, she and her parents moved to Cairo, Egypt. Five years later, during the Arab-Israeli conflict, a plane crashed into their home. Ororo’s parents were killed, but she survived, buried under rubble near her mother’s body. The resultant trauma left Ororo with severe claustrophobia that still affects her today.

Storm & Black Panther:
Marvel’s first black married couple, Storm and Black Panther (aka T’Challa), have been enjoying wedded bliss ever since they tied the knot in one of the comic world’s most-talked-about weddings in 2006. But it seems their love has come to an end as the couple’s marriage was recently annulled in the latest issue of “Avengers vs. X-Men.”For those of you who aren’t nerds, or blerds (aka black nerds) as the cool kids are calling themselves, Storm and Black Panther’s marriage has been on the rocks for a while as their respective superhero teams, the X-Men and the Avengers, have been fighting each other over the re-emergence of the insatiable cosmic force, the Pheonix. Apparently, things between the couple finally came crashing down in the recent issue when Storm arrived a little too late to help Black Panther in a fight. When she did arrive, Black Panther gave her the cold shoulder and then cruelly dumped her right in the midst of their fight.
